Standalone BEK Lightband Internet

Q: What is standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

Standalone BEK Lightband Internet is BEK's NEW Gigabit Internet which no longer requires a landline phone service.

Q: Am I eligible for standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

YES, all residential and business subscribers in the BEK service area are eligible for standalone BEK Lightband Internet.

Q: When can I subscribe to standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

Standalone, BEK Lightband Internet will be available starting December 1, 2017. 

Q: If I'm currently under contract, can I still subscribe to standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

YES, you are eligible for standalone BEK Lightband Internet even if you are under contract. If you subscribe to standalone BEK Lightband Internet, your internet and/or TV contract term will not be affected, and do not require contract extension.  

Q: Do I still qualify for "Fiber Club Credits" if I choose standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

YES, standalone BEK Lightband Internet subscribers will still receive the "Fiber Club Credits" for subscribing to additional BEK Services.

Q: Will standalone BEK Lightband Internet have any mandated fees?
A:

YES, we are required to collect a Federal Universal Service Charge which, at this time, is $8.19.

Q: If I keep my phone, can I keep my current internet plan and price?
A:

YES, you can choose to keep everything as is if you'd like.  Please be advised that traditional internet plans are scheduled to be discontinued within the next 18 months as we move incrementally closer to the present minimum of 1/4 gigabit service.Your internet price will not change until the next scheduled increase January 1, 2018.  

Q: What happens to my phone number if I move to standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

If you choose to remove your landline phone service, you can either forfeit your current phone number or "port" to only a mobile cellular device.

Q: If I port my phone number to a mobile cellular device, can I still be listed in BEK's local phone directory?
A:

Yes, we are pleased to offer this service to our members. A nominal $25 annual administration fee is assessed to reserve your cell phone number for publishing. Please notify BEK if this number changes or if you no longer want it published.

A $150 annual administration fee is assessed for a foreign business listing.

Q: What internet speeds are available with standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

BEK Lightband Internet is available in 1/4 Gigabit (250Mbps download by 125Mbps upload speed), 1/2 Gigabit (500Mbps download by 250Mbps upload speed) and 1 Gigabit (1,000Mbps download by 500Mbps upload speed).

Q: Do I need to purchase any new equipment for standalone, BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

We recommend you evaluate your router and WiFi needs annually. The age of the hardware you use and the type of router you are using will affect download/upload speeds. BEK technicians are available to assist as your needs change. Q: Are all BEK Services available as "Standalone?"
A:

BEK Lightband and BEK Phone W/Unlimited Long Distance (UNLD) are both available as standalone. All other BEK Services require either BEK Lightband or BEK Phone W/Unlimited Long Distance (UNLD).

Q: Will I earn patronage if I move to standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

Yes. Both phone and internet customers are now eligible for patronage.

Q: Is Lifeline available on standalone BEK Lightband Internet?
A:

Lifeline is a government assistance program that offers a discount to qualified customers on their monthly telephone OR internet service. If you choose to remove your phone service, your lifeline assistance, if applicable, will be applied toward your standalone BEK Lightband Internet service. Q: Can I put my standalone BEK Lightband Internet service on vacation when I travel this winter?
A:

YES, if your current contract allows you to put BEK Services on vacation, then this same great feature will be available to you with your standalone BEK Lightband Internet.

Q: What happens to my Television pricing now?
A:

Your television pricing will not change whether you choose standalone BEK Lightband Internet or stay "as is", until the scheduled increase on January 1, 2018.  Keeping your television plan still qualifies you for a $20 Fiber Club Credit off your standalone BEK Lightband Internet.  Please be advised that content providers negotiate their agreements annually. Nominal changes in provider fees are often absorbed by BEK.  However, substantial changes are often reflected in updated TV package pricing. 

Q: Can I change all of my services and/or subscribe to standalone BEK Lightband Interent on-line or by using SmartHub?
A:

Not at this time though we are researching ways to make this available in the future.
