Corey's Corner 9/30
Posted 9/30/15 (Wed)
Welcome back to Corey’s Corner for Week 2 of this Weekly Commentary section. This one is going to be a shortened version of the commentary because of some great stuff we have coming up on the BEK Sports Network, but more on that later.
We start in Napoleon, ND. Last week, we were in Wishek watching this same Napoleon team (check out Brian’s commentary on that one). But while the players were the same, the play on the court was completely different this time vs. the Kidder County Pirates.
Even with one of their top players out, the Imperials put on an absolute show. So much of volleyball comes down to finding the ball in the right spot. And that starts with the setter and the second touch. In this one, it was all about Shanae Wentz. She was all over the floor putting the ball up for her teammates, as well as keeping it alive by pitching in a few digs. The rest of the team was great behind her as well, and so they won this one 3-0.
As for Kidder County, they just couldn’t get their system going. Napoleon could really do no wrong throughout this one, hammering home aces throughout the game and providing various attacking looks. Paige Schmidt, the all-district player for the Pirates looked strong when she was able to get off a quality hit in the front row, but that was all the Pirates really had. They tried to battle in each set, but the Imperials came out of each set on fire for the next. And so Kidder County looks to continue to build in coach Kelsey Nicholson's first year.
Finally, we have the NDRA Rodeo Finals coming up this weekend right here on the BEK Sports Network. Friday and Saturday at 7, be sure to check it out. We're excited to bring you all the action from the Bismarck Civic Center.
