September 27th, 2016: Oakes vs. Sargent Central

Last week kicked off in Forman when we got our first look at Oakes.  On the road versus a short-handed Cadets team the Tornadoes flexed their muscles en route to a 3-0 sweep.  Sargent Central was behind the eight ball to start playing without their lone senior, starting outside hitter Amber Peterson.  Ashlyn Bladow stepped up on offense leading her team with seven kills and the back line performed admirably on defense against an Oakes offense that showcased how they have racked up so many wins this season.  Shelby and Taylor Roney each accumulated seven kills while Nicole Schmitz led the team with eleven kills and six aces.  Another impressive performance was put on by eighth grader Sadie Hansen who has performed admirably in relief of her older sister from the setter position.

September 29th, 2016: Bismarck vs. Bismarck Century

Crosstown rivals squared off in the Century gymnasium that was filled with atmosphere last Thursday.  The Patriots showed us what they are made of a couple of weeks ago versus St. Mary’s in a dominant three setter, but versus the Demons points did not come as easily.  After a convincing 25-10 Patriot win in set one the Demons stepped up and squeezed out a back and forth 25-23 set two.   Unfortunately for Bismarck the gutsy victory seemed to drain a good amount of emotional and physical energy and the Patriots, who have only lost a few sets all season, rebounded in a big way to win set two 25-16 and set four 25-14.  Century showcased once again that they are a top dog in the state and Bismarck undoubtedly gained confidence with the set victory in knowing they can compete with the Patriots who they could likely see again in the WDA Tournament.
