2018-What To Watch For
Posted 1/03/18 (Wed)
Happy 2018! A new year brings resolutions, a fresh start and a whole lot of great games coming your way on BEK 247 and BEK Prime. Here are a few marquee matchups to circle on your calendars this winter:
January 4th: Mandan vs. St. Mary’s GBB
Tomorrow the fourth ranked Braves take on the fifth ranked Saints in a game that will give us a good idea how the top of the WDA will shakeout. Mandan’s only WDA loss so far this season came versus #1 ranked Century in the first game of the season and the Saints are humming along at 7-1 (5-0 in state).
January 11th and 12th: Arizona State vs. Jamestown/Minot State MHKY
The Sun Devils will try and bring some heat to the Peace Garden State later this month versus the toughest one-two punch in the ACHA. #2 Minot State has taken care of business at home at a record clip over the last few years, including a sweep of ASU last season. #16 Jamestown is the only team to beat the Beavers at the MAYSA in the last three years and will try and win the season series from the kids from the desert after splitting a weekend in Arizona 6-2 and 2-5.
January 18th: Stanley vs. New Town BBB
Undefeated New Town put on a show for us earlier this season beating Watford City 70-57 at the Roughrider Center. The Eagles face their toughest challenge of the season in the high flying #2 Stanley Blue Jays on BEK 247(ranked second despite receiving a significant majority of 1st place votes). Tune in and buckle up for what should be an up and down 175 point show.
January 30th: Medina-Pingree-Buchannan vs. Kidder County GBB
The last few years Region 3 has been the dominant volleyball region in the state, featuring the three time defending champs in LLM and a few other teams that gave them all they could handle in region tournaments. This year that success has transferred to hoops. EKM, LLM, MPB and Carrington are all featured in the top ten and Kidder County is now receiving votes after taking down former #1 Langdon. The Wolves will have another chance to prove themselves later this month when they square off against the Thunder.
February 3rd: Bismarck vs. Davies BHKY
Last week the Grand Forks and Bismarck teams faced off at the VFW in four entertaining contests. Red River and Central collected all four wins but the games were close enough to ensure some fun matchups at the state tournament. We kickoff the month of February at Scheel’s arena with a matchup that will further establish the pecking order across the state. The Eagles have taken GFC and RR to shootouts and the Demons played both to one goal games. Should be a tight one in Fargo.
