Valley City State University and BEK Communications: A Partnership to Support Athletics, Academics, and Technology

Valley City, N.D. – October 29, 2014 – Last week, Valley City State University (VCSU) Athletic Director Jack Denholm and Assistant Director of Annual Giving Jeremy Wiebe gathered with the Board of Directors from BEK Communications Cooperative in front of the BEK-sponsored Lokken Stadium wall at Shelly Ellig Field. The photo taken that day officially kicked off what both organizations hope is a long and successful partnership.

BEK Communications has made an ongoing commitment to work closely with Valley City State University officials to support a variety of programs and events. In addition to athletic, event, and facility sponsorships, the two organizations have collaborated to create the annual BEK Communications Technology Scholarship, available to students in early 2015. In addition, BEK leaders continue to explore possible internships and have developed service packages specifically for students.

“As a rural Cooperative, it is part of BEK’s heritage to be a positive force in the communities we serve. This goes well beyond our products, services and employees. In the minds of our Board of Directors, leaders, and employees, BEK is directly vested into the well-being of the entire community. Our long-term goal is to help Valley City area residents and businesses prosper and grow; and create a strong foundation for future generations. The work we do with VCSU is a natural and important extension of that goal,” said Derrick Bulawa, BEK CEO and General Manager.

For more than 62 years BEK Communications Cooperative has brought cutting edge communications services to thousands of North Dakotans using a business approach modeled from its cooperative history and employing a spirit of service. Uniquely, BEK seeks to partner with the people and organizations who work tirelessly to build and preserve their rural communities. As a key component of these partnerships, BEK's Board of Directors, leaders, and employees consider how their efforts can improve quality of life, create new opportunities, support innovation, and build connections that matter - in the same communities in which they live, work, and play.

“We are very excited for BEK Communications to make the full transition to Valley City. They have shown a major commitment to our community and we look forward to a very positive relationship for years to come,” said Jeremy Wiebe, Assistant Director of Annual Giving at VCSU.
