The 2009 North Dakota Shrine Bowl and Lions All-Star Basketball Games to be Televised

The 2009 North Dakota Shrine bowl will air LIVE statewide on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D.  BEK Sports of Steele, N.D., in agreement with the North Dakota Shrine Bowl, will be broadcasting both the 11-man and 9-man games. 

The two games are scheduled with an East vs. West format. Kickoff for the 11-man game will be at 4:00 p.m. with the 9-man game to follow at 7:00 p.m.  Players will report to practice on July 12th with the West teams at NDSU in Fargo, N.D. and the East teams at UND in Grand Forks, N.D.
Additionally, the Lions All-Star Basketball Games will air LIVE on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 from the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, N.D. and on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from the Fargo Civic Center in Fargo, N.D. 

The four games are set up in a Class A vs. Class B format with both boys and girls basketball. Tip off for both the Bismarck and Fargo locations will be the girls’ games at 6:00 p.m. with the boys’ games to follow at 8:00 p.m.

BEK Sports has partnered with twelve cable providers across the state of North Dakota. The six games will be broadcast to approximately 180,000 households across the state!  This is the first time these games will be broadcast live to an audience of this magnitude.

North Dakota Shrine bowl
Players in the Shrine bowl are graduating high school seniors from North Dakota and Western Minnesota, nominated by their coaches and voted on by the North Dakota Coaches Association. The Kem and El Zagal Temples of Grand Forks and Fargo, North Dakota sponsor the North Dakota Shrine bowl. For a list of the 2009 players, go to

The North Dakota Shrine Bowl started in 1974 as a way to honor high school athletes that have excelled in football during the season. The proceeds from the game go to help the Shrine’s Hospitals and providing information to the public about children in need of medical care.

Shriner’s Hospital for Children provides children up to the age of 18 with specialty pediatric care in a family-centered environment at no charge. The Shriner’s Hospital also provides innovative research and outstanding teaching programs and since 1922 has significantly improved the lives of more than 865,000 children.

Lions All-Star Basketball
Players in the Lions All-Star Basketball games are graduating high school seniors who are selected by the members of the N.D. High School Coaches Association. The coaches for the All-Star teams are selected by the head coaches of the teams who met in the final rounds at the state tournament. The Lions games honor the outstanding seniors and let them display their athletic skills.

The Lions All-Star Basketball Games were developed by N.D. Lions and the N.D. High School Coaches Association in 1977 to help raise money for the Lions local charities of North Dakota and to provide a game were the best players could compete.  This year’s games will be the 33rd consecutive year the games have been played with over tens of thousands of dollars raised for the Lions’ charities across North Dakota.
