Telecommunications Academy to be Presented

BEK Communications Cooperative will sponsor up to three high school students to attend the Electronic Telecommunications Academy June 3 – 8, 2007 at Bismarck State College. This opportunity is available to students who are presently high school sophomores or juniors and will be at least 16 years of age by May 31, 2007. Twenty-four students from North Dakota, North Central South Dakota and eastern Montana will be chosen to explore career opportunities in Telecommunications. Several agencies have partnered in bringing this opportunity to the area, including Telephone Apprenticeship Training and Safety, ND Tech Prep, Bismarck State College, Bismarck Public Schools, and several local independent communications providers throughout the region.
High school students who attend the Electronics Telecommunications Academy will explore basic telecommunications skills and gain insight into telecommunications careers in the area. Classroom activities will focus on hands-on and interactive activities designed to build insight into telecommunications skills and knowledge. Students completing the academy will earn one-fourth high school credit and may be awarded a $125 stipend from their sponsoring local independent telecommunications company upon academy completion. Deadline for all applications is April 13, 2007.
The Bismarck State College Foundation will be offering $1000 scholarships in related studies to three (3) students attending the academy. The scholarships will be awarded at the graduation ceremony on June 8, 2007.
