BEK Life called out grillers from across the BEK territory to compete in a live grilling competition and everyone participating had a blast!
The competition was held in Steele, N.D. on a typically windy North Dakota day. Four seasoned cooks, along with their assistants, were pitted against each other around the big BEK grill. Entries were scored on taste, presentation and creativity. The big winner received a $75 gift card, a BEK summer fun pack and the highly coveted “1st Place 2011 BEK Life Country Cook-off Competition” trophy.
· Suzette Berg along with cooking assistant and daughter Jenni Berg from Driscoll took first place with their cracked pepper salmon topped with asparagus and a dill sauce, cheesy potatoes, cream cucumbers and banana foster.
· Second place went to Moffit’s Dennis Agnew and assistant Andrew Vetter from Linton who created marinated pork loin, a summer squash dish with red peppers and peachy-keen bean mix.
· Taking third place was Karen Morrison from Robinson with assistant Myra Ulmer from Tuttle. These ladies whipped up a succulent home-grown rib eye steak, parmesan cheese and olive oil garden vegetables and caramelized peaches.
· Fourth place went to cook Anthony Mulske and his assistant Sammie Klein from Linton who made mouth-watering rib eye steak that was marinated with homemade marinade and plated with seasoned potatoes with peppers. Anthony and Lisa cooked on behalf of Webo’s Restaurant and Lounge in Linton.
Serving as judges for the competition, and getting the chance to taste these amazing culinary delights, were Driscoll’s Eric Meland who was the 2009 Steele Country Cook-off winner, Beth Leintz from Menoken and Nicki Larson on behalf of Tony’s Diner in Steele.
Before the Country Cook-off began, the BEK Ringers Relay for Life team served the community with brats, hotdogs, chips and beverage. All proceeds from the meal went to Relay for Life.
